I used to do some metal work in the past, but haven’t kept up with it since high school. I was wondering if anyone here makes their own frames? I want to try and make my own, as I think that would be a fun project to take on. Any tips on how to start?

Nope, I don’t know how to weld or work with metal in general, so there’s no way I’d be able to make my own frame. But, I wouldn’t be opposed to getting a frame custom built instead.

You can make your own frame, but don’t take it off-roading without proper trials. The frame needs to withstand enormous stress while riding, modern bikes have very high quality tubing. It would be better to go with company manufactured frame. If it’s for fun project can build your own.

No I don’t know anything deep into it. As mentioned earlier, if we wish then we can go ahead for customised one.

I ride MTB’s and seriously think that we won’t be able to manufacture them at home. The latest alloy tubes aren’t available in the retail market. So home made bikes won’t be able to compete with factory bikes.

Making our own frame will be difficult and so if I need a particular design, I will approach for customised model which will also be satisfactory as well.

My father welded an worn-out frame and I used it, when I was young. But didn’t built if from the scratch. Don’t think it would be safe. As mine, eventually broke down.

I have seen a friend of mine make a custom made cycle using T-Slot frames and they look really cool.
