The Maxxis Shorty has been the go-to tire for any rider searching for grip when conditions are a little on the soft side. The mid spike design of the original Shorty make it a great choice for mud, loam and dust, but as good as the original might be, it is getting on in years hence this update,
As far as we can tell, the Maxxis Shorty Gen 2 tire hasn’t officially been released, but anyone visiting the Maxxis website can search and find the new mid-spike.
Compared to the original the 2021 Maxxis Shorty Gen 2 tire uses a new knob layout for improved traction. The new design sees the original large central knob removed and replaced by alternation dual knobs in a narrow/wide configuration. The Maxxis website mentions that the new tire has improved wet weather and cornering performance too, while a narrower 2.4in option offers more clearance and reduces weight.
After gathering years of data and feedback from our World Cup Downhill and Enduro World Series athletes, the Shorty is completely new for 2021. The knob layout has been altered to improve wet traction, cornering performance, and mud shedding abilities. The narrower 2.40″ casing improves frame and fork clearance for when things get really sloppy and reduces weight.
