Pole website down for maintenance. New Pole eMTB launching today? Here’s what we know!

Anyone visiting the Pole website today will be greeted with a maintenance page hinting that the Finnish brand is on the verge of accepting pre-orders for its first eMTB!

It’s all very Apple-esque over at the Pole Bicycles website today, and customers hoping to browse the Finnish brands’ wares, will be greeted with the below ‘maintenance’ message and a promise of something ‘exciting’.

And we at Edit think we know what that ‘exciting’ thing is going to be! An all-new Pole eMTB, possibly even called the Pole Shaman (although we’re grasping at straws with that name).

Pole emtb launch

A CNC machined Pole eMTB has been on the cards for some time now, with the Finnish bicycle makers founder teasing his motorised rig in numerous social media posts. The teasers and staged spy photos have given us a glimpse at what to expect, but here is everything we’ve learned about the Pole eMTB so far;

90Nm Torque

Leo from Pole had previously confirmed that his eMTB will have a 90Nm motor, and due to the suspiciously well-integrated package, we’ve long considered the unit to be a Brose system and it appears we were correct. Answering comments in a social media post, Leo confirmed that his latest creation would be running a Brose, a brand made famous by Specialized ebikes, but often found on plenty of niche eMTB’s from Europe.

725Wh battery

Also confirmed is the 725Wh battery. Judging by the photos of the prototype Pole eMTB the battery will be easily removed but the opening for the cell will be above the down tube rather than below it. We’re not 100% sure of the reason, but we’re assuming that it helps with weatherproofing the system but there could also be benefits to frame strength and stiffness also.

190mm travel

The amount of travel has also been confirmed to be 190mm of the Pole eMTB. This so happens to be the same amount of travel on the upcoming Pole super enduro bike sporting the new rear suspension linkage and raced in Maderia earlier this year.

29er, mullet, or 27.5

You can’t have an MTB or eMTB in 2021 that isn’t compatible with multiple wheel sizes. The Pole eMTB will be happy as a full 29er, a mullet or running smaller 27.5in wheels. What remains to be seen is how the geometry of the frame will be affected by these changes and if a flip-chip or adjustable link will be employed in some way?

CNC machined alloy frame

Hardly surprising, but the Pole eMTB will get the same CNC machine treatment as the Stamina. Two halves of CNC machined alloy will be fastened together although we wonder if the parts on the eMTB can be separated to access the Brose motor for servicing?

New suspension design

Pole has redesigned the suspension of its new eMTB and enduro bikes using a system that at a glimpse looks like a single pivot Orange swingarm. The system is a multi-link design. We await official kinematics for a rundown of how it might handle the trail.

Called the Pole Shaman?

We’re not 100% certain on this, but a social media post featuring a Shaman just seemed a little random for our tastes. If this is the name of the new Pole, how will Sunn feel about it?

Price and availability?

Pole will begin accepting pre-orders for their eMTB soon, perhaps even today, but we already expect demand to be high and availability to be limited. Pricing is also unknown at this time, but as soon as we hear something we will update this post with details.

We’ll bring you all the details of the new Pole eMTB as soon as we receive the official news.
