Shorter stem should be stiffer and offer faster steering but are there any other benefits? Also, what do you consider short? 35mm, 50mm? Anyone riding with a 60mm stem these days?

Shorter Stem are provide more responsive and provides quick control. It’s good for downhill rides. Longer Stems provide good power at front wheel and are comfortable to ride.

Long Stems provide good comfort and ride ability. It is comfortable and doesn’t cause any strain on the lower back. Shorter stems are preferred in mountain bikes and off road bikes where quick response is required. Depending upon the situation, you can choose between long stem or short stem bike.

I feel like a shorter stem provides a better steering than a longer stem does. But I mostly use short stems on my bikes, mainly because I ride mountain bikes the most.

The feel of a short stem is more responsive and comfortable. Longer stem would be apt during steep climbs.

I have experienced both short stem and long stem bikes on different occasions. I have found that in riding a shorter stem gives the bike quicker handling characteristics and a more responsive feel. On the other hand a longer stem shifts your body weight towards the front of the bike and puts you in a better pedaling position,

I prefer short stems in BMX bikes for free styling and stunts, it gives me good control over the bike and i use long stems in my ATV for touring, riding long stems is more comfortable while riding long distances.

When we use longer stems, feels like body weight shifts towards the front of the bike. Shorter stems are far more comfortable for me.

I love long stems. They are comfortable and provide good overall stability to the bike. Short stems are useful for downhill racing.

I prefer the short stems as they provide easy maneuverability and I am comfortable with it while steering the bike especially downhill.
