I figure with all ebikes, they come with some kind of battery, maybe a lithium one, or one more relating to a car battery or scooter battery. Anyway, how long do most ebike batteries last? Are they pretty decent at lasting? Or do some ebikes require you to charge anything? Or is it more like a car battery, where you don’t normally need to charge it?

I hear they’re pretty decent, but it also depends on the type of ebike you have. I think some use lithium, but I think you can get traditional cell batteries, probably not a 6 cell battery, but something smaller, maybe 2 cell or 4 cell. You don’t need anything major.

This question is a little like asking how long a piece of string is. Ebike battery life and eBike range can greatly vary on a number of factors. The first one is how large is the capacity of the battery, and then how much torque the motor delivers. Then on top of this the weight of the bike/rider, the types of riding, how much climbing you’re doing etc And to answer your other question, yes you do need to charge the battery. Riding the bike won’t charge it up.

Ebikes battery range also depend upon the terrain and the rider, if the terrain is hilly or uphill the battery would drain up quickly, on flat lands would get good backup. Choose Ebikes according to your riding style and terrain.

    Thanks for the response.

Thanks for clearing it up some. There’s clearly a lot I need to learn about ebikes and the type of parts they use.

Yeah I suppose I didn’t consider that. I’ll have to look at bikes that would work best for me. I usually ride on the roads and like to ride on the trails, so all terrain would be best. But I don’t intend to do any riding on a mountain or up steep hills.

Battery in new Ebikes last from two to five years. Usually these batteries can be charged up to 1000 times before they are replaced. Ebikes can go up to 120 km per charge. The best way to charge these batteries would be to charge them when they are at 30% to 40% charge and not when fully drained as that could reduce the battery life considerably.

It actually depends upon the average speed of the bike, terrain and rider weight.

The batteries in the new model Mtb’s are kept in the frame tube to provide, even weight distribution and balance. High level Ebikes have 4-6 cells, which provides considerable battery power.

Lithium ion batteries are standard in E-bikes now. They are easy to maintain and charge fast. Latest E-bikes, provide option of adding additional cells to increase the range.
